Natick-based BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. is blaming two familiar hobgoblins for a 2.1 percent dip in April same-store sales: foul weather and an early Easter.
BJ’s reported a 1.9 percent increase in net sales for April, which increased to $618.5 million from $606.7 million the year before.
The company said the timing of the Easter holiday “had a negative impact on comparable club sales of approximately 2 percent.”
Also, “unseasonably cold and wet weather across most of the chain” kept members out of many of the company’s 116 stores.
The same-store sales dip included a 1.2 percent increase in gasoline sales, but a 0.4 percent drop as a result of closing its in-store pharmacies in February, the company said.
