Dr. Anthony P. Furnary, a prominent surgeon from Portland, Ore.,has joined the medical advisory board of Franklin-based Echo Therapeutics .
Furnary created a method for maintaining blood glucose levels in diabetic patients that undergo surgical procedures. The aggressive insulin therapy is said to reduce the risk of surgery-related deaths among diabetic patients.
Echo, formerly Sontra Medical Corp., is developing a system for monitoring glucose levels in diabetics.
