Pittsburgh Firm To Supply Residential Electricity Market

Direct Energy, a Pennsylvania-based energy services provider, will enter the Massachusetts electricity market for homeowners, the company announced.

Direct joins a list of 19 other companies currently licensed to supply power in National Grid’s service territory, according to the state Department of Public Utilities.

The company has been a competitive supplier for the commercial market in Massachusetts since 2001. It officially began offering a 12-month, fixed-rate plan to residential customers on Nov. 30, said spokeswoman Julie Hendry. Hendry said the company received state approval earlier this year to become a supplier. It already supplies residential customers in eight states.
