No one wants to pay for internet video downloads, and the entire paid video download market is a dead end, according to a report from Cambridge-based Forrester Research Inc.
According to the report, paid video downloads will peak at $279 million this year.
Several large companies have offered the ability to download television programs and movies, but according to Forrester, only 9 percent of internet-using adults have ever paid to download a movie of television program.
Analysts said the 9 percent that did pay to download videos “are a niche of media junkies willing to spend heavily on such content; they do not represent the vanguard of a rush by mainstream consumers.”
According to Forrester, the paid video download market “will soon become extinct” in order to make way for advertising-supported streams.
