No tax hikes to fix roads, bridges

Investing in infrastructure, especially roads and bridges, is a top priority for administrations in Boston and Washington, but paying for it is proving to be difficult. The state recently raised the gas tax 3 cents per gallon, and is tying future increases to inflation, although there is a move to repeal the indexing. Infrastructure investments are widely seen as important for business, and the American Society for Civil Engineers recently gave the nation’s roads a grade of D and bridges a C+. But last week’s Flash Poll showed that few believe taxes should be raised to fix them.
