With the incorporation, Milford Regional Physician Group brings its 135 physicians, 113 advanced practice providers, and 386 staff members to UMass Memorial Medical Group.
Fifteen months after Milford Regional Medical Center became a member of the Worcester-based UMass Memorial Health, Milford Regional Physician Group is following in the facility’s footsteps as it has officially joined the UMass Memorial Medical Group, the second-largest physician group in Central Massachusetts.
With the incorporation, Milford Regional Physician Group brings its 135 physicians, 113 advanced practice providers, and 386 staff members to UMass Memorial Medical Group, according to UMass Memorial Health’s website. Milford Regional’s group offers primary and specialty care to 42 outpatient centers in addition to UMMH’s Milford Regional Medical Center.
As the second-largest physician group in the region, UMass Memorial Medical Group employs 1,374 physicians, according to data collected by WBJ’s Research Department.
“For 33 years, Milford Regional Physician Group has earned the trust of the region by providing high-quality, compassionate care close to home. Patients will continue to see the same trusted providers, care teams, and staff they know, now supported by the expanded resources of UMass Memorial Medical Group,” a statement on UMass Memorial’s website reads.
Milford Regional Medical Center finalized its corporate affiliation with UMass Memorial on Oct. 1, 2024 after 33 years of clinical affiliation.

The corporate affiliation came after Milford Regional experienced a $15-million operating loss in fiscal 2023, the facility’s President and CEO Edward Kelly previously told WBJ.
“We didn’t want to get to the point where we were changing who Milford Regional was, just to stay independent,” Kelly said at the time.
With 148 licensed beds as of the second quarter 2025, Milford Regional is the fourth-largest hospital in Central Massachusetts. At the time, the facility employed 561 registered nurses and 307 physicians. Founded in 1903, the hospital generated $395.31 million in revenue in 2024.
