Mass. Unemployment Steady, Jobs Down

The state’s unemployment rate for December was 8.2 percent, identical to November’s rate, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

That’s less than a year before, when it stood at 9.3 percent, and also less than the current national rate of 9.4 percent.

The state’s preliminary December jobs estimate shows a loss of 2,100 jobs between November and December, with most of the loss in the leisure and hospitality industry. Over the year, jobs were up by 45,600.
