Unemployment in the Bay State remained unchanged in November, at 6.6 percent, while 1,100 jobs were lost, according to the state’s Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The unemployment rate was down four-tenths of a percentage point from the November 2011 rate of 7 percent. The three-month average was 6.6 percent, while the six-month average was 6.4 percent.
November’s losses follow a revised gain of 11,900 jobs in October. Between November 2011 and this year, net 46,600 jobs were added. Professional, scientific, and business services and trade, transportation and utilities had the largest gains over the year.
In November, the largest job gains came from trade, transportation and utilities (5,500) and education and health services (1,100).
The worst losses were in leisure and hospitality (4,000), due to losses in accommodation and food services, arts, entertainment and recreation. Manufacturing jobs dipped by 2,600.
