Mass layoffs in June led 1,133 Massachusetts workers to file for unemployment benefits, up from 948 in the same month last year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The BLS reported 16 mass layoff events in the state over the month, versus 13 a year ago. In May there were 10 mass layoffs affecting 1,068 workers. Mass layoffs involve at least 50 workers from a single employer.
Nationwide, there were 1,661 mass layoff actions in June involving 159,930 workers.
