Littleton automation firm brings in former IBM executive as CEO

Just over a year after moving its headquarters from Maryland to Littleton, warehouse and supply-chain automation firm Peak Technologies has brought in a new leader.

Joachim “Joe” Heel, a former senior leader at companies including IBM and Sun Microsystems, has been named CEO of Peak, the company announced Thursday. Heel comes to Peak from his role as chief revenue officer of Illinois-based technology conglomerate Zebra Technologies.

Heel’s sales expertise and experience in the tech field made him the best fit for CEO, said David Fredston, founder and CEO of Sole Source Capital.

Sole Source Capital, a California-based private equity firm, purchased Peak Technologies and Littleton-based Optical Phusion in 2021. Peak was based in Maryland at the time of the acquisition.

Sole Source then combined Peak and Optical Phusion into a single firm, later moving the company to a new Littleton headquarters at 265 Foster St. in 2025.

Heel replaces Anthony Rivers, who had been serving as Peak’s CEO since 2021, according to his LinkedIn profile. Rivers didn’t respond to a message seeking comment on his next career move.

Founded in 1981 in Illinois, Peak Technologies designs and installs systems that let workers scan items, track inventory in real time, and automate repetitive tasks. The company has more than 13,000 customers across the world, including Samsung and Honeywell.

In addition to its Littleton global headquarters, Peak has offices in the United Kingdom and Canada.
