Boxborough’s Lightower Fiber Networks has been selected to support the Massachusetts Broadband Institute’s efforts to expand broadband Internet service across Western Massachusetts.
Westborough-based MBI’s MassBroadband123 is extending broadband Internet service to 120 communities in Western Massachusetts. As part of that effort, Lightower will provide Internet connections from Western Massachusetts to major Internet connection points in Boston over the company’s New England fiber-optic network.
Lightower’s contract with MBI is for 25 years and will be worth $2.1 million.
Lightower was selected through a competitive procurement process to provide the service, which will provide redundancy to ensure network reliability.
