According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 322,000 Americans filed for federal unemployment insurance for the first time during the week ended Aug.18.
That’s a decrease of 2,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 324,000.
The department’s advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending Aug. 11, unchanged from the prior week.
For the same week, 2,572,000 Americans were unemployed but covered by unemployment insurance, the department said, an increase of 16,000 from the previous week.
