Industrial production decreased 0.2 percent in September compared to August, though it was up 5.4 percent from September 2009, according to a Federal Reserve report.
The biggest drag on September output came from appliances, furniture and carpeting as well as from energy, both of which saw 1.9-percent decreases.
Seasonally adjusted, autos and light truck assemblies rose to an annualized rate of 7.84 million, compared to 7.75 million in August.
Transit equipment production increased 1.8 percent. Clothing, food and tobacco also saw output increases.
