IDC: IT Marketing Will Grow

Marketing by IT firms is expected to bounce back stronger than originally expected in 2011, according to Framingham-based International Data Corp.

IDC upped its prediction for spending by IT companies on marketing from increasing 6.8 percent this year to the revised estimate of an 8-percent increase.

Marketing by IT firms dropped in 2009 and it recovered slightly in 2010, IDC said, but there are “strong signs” of recovery in 2011.

An estimated 60 percent of the new funds will be spent on marketing programs with about 40 percent spent on additional staff. Marketing programs will also more heavily favor digital marketing campaigns, IDC predicts.
