I don’t want to hold your hand

A recent study by Menlo Park Calif.-based staffing firm Accountemps found that entry-level accounting and finance professionals may have to take it upon themselves to find someone to help them up the career ladder.

According to the study, 58 percent of CFOs polled said it is uncommon for new hires to be assigned mentors, either formally or informally.

The study was commissioned by Accountemps and carried out by an independent research firm.
About 13 percent of respondents said it was very common for their companies to assign mentors to new employees. Twenty-five percent said it was somewhat common.
