The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester an $800,000 grant to establish a Mellon Postdoctoral Teaching Fellows program at the school.
The program intends to attract students who recently received doctorate degrees to teaching at small colleges rather than at large research universities. The Holy Cross grant will bring six such scholars to Worcester over the next four years.
The Mellon fellows will be mentored by senior Holy Cross faculty and will concentrate on the college’s new Montserrat academic program for first-year students. The program emphasizes interaction between students and professors outside the classroom.
