Massport has named a director of Worcester Regional Airport, replacing longtime aviation leader Andy Davis as he heads into retirement.
Matthew Elia is the new leader of Worcester Regional Airport, effective immediately, Massport announced Monday. Elia most recently served as senior airport planner for Hoyle Tanner & Associates, a New Hampshire-based engineering firm with an aviation division focused on designing and managing airports.
“We were sad to see longtime Director Andy Davis retire in July, but Matthew will bring years of experience in airport management to Worcester and will be working closely with our airline partners and the community to make sure the airport continues to be an integral part of Central Massachusetts,” Massport CEO Rich Davey said in the announcement.
Elia will be tasked with continuing growth at Worcester Regional, as Massport looks to double its passenger count by 2035 and grow its cargo operations.
Elia’s two decades of experience in the aviation industry made him the right choice to continue Davis’ efforts to grow Worcester Regional’s impact, said Sharon Williams, executive director of aviation for Massport.
Prior to his year-and-a-half stint at Hoyle Tanner & Associates, Elia assisted with the management of airports including Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis, New Bedford Regional Airport, and the Tavares Seaplane Base in Florida.
Elia sits on the board of the Massachusetts Airport Management Association and the Aviation Industry Advisory Board at Bridgewater State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in aviation from Bridgewater State, and a master’s in business administration from UMass Dartmouth.
Davis’ retirement after 18 years of leading Worcester Regional was announced in May. He led the small regional airport through the COVID-19 pandemic and other ups and downs in the commercial airline industry, growing the airport’s passenger count to record levels in fiscal 2026.
