Atech Turbine Components in Auburn has been purchased by a Florida-based distributor and repairer of aviation parts.
VSE Corp. is a provider of aftermarket parts distribution and maintenance, repair, and overhaul services in the aviation industry. The firm is publicly traded on the Nasdaq under the ticket symbol VSEC.
The purchase of Atech brought with it the firm’s repair capabilities, its long-standing relationship with aviation giant Pratt & Whitney Canada, and opportunities to further expand Atech’s capacity and capabilities, VSE Corp. said in a Monday announcement.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Atech Turbine Components repairs and refurbishes key metal components inside aircraft engines. Atech is authorized by U.S., European, and British aviation regulators to perform this work. The firm is approved by Pratt & Whitney Canada to make specialized repairs on parts used in several of that manufacturer’s engine families.
What is now Atech was purchased by Amar and Ani Kapur, a couple who met while studying at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The company is now run by their daughter Rita Kapur.
“We are incredibly proud of what we have built,” said Rita Kapur, president of Atech. “Our people, our reputation, and the trust we have earned from our customers are what defines us. This partnership with VSE Aviation allows us to build on that foundation while creating even greater opportunities for growth.”
The acquisition of Atech does not include Auburn-based Aimtek Inc., the Kapur family’s separate specialty-materials and industrial-products company.
Atech is based at 1 Saint Mark St. in Auburn and has about 40 employees.
VSE Corp’s purchase of Atech comes after its $2-billion acquisition of Atlanta-based Precision Aviation Group in May and acquired West Virginia-based NorthStar Technologies in April, according to company announcements.
