Perhaps it’s the economy, perhaps executives are just getting older, but results of a survey of 150 top executives say fewer of them would take the plunge into self employment than would have 10 years ago.
The survey, which was developed by California-based Robert Half Management Resources, found that just 32 percent of executives would make the move to self employment if they had the start-up money. In 1997, the same survey found that 38 percent would do the same.
Half said today’s executives may find more security and opportunity in their corporate roles than they would in striking out on their own. Also, the failure of a large number of start-ups in the last 10 years may have scared would-be business owners away from starting their own companies.
