Lawrence-based engineering firm TEC, Inc. has moved its Downtown Worcester office a few blocks to 100 Front St.Previously located at the Central Exchange Building at 311 Main St., the move to the 10th floor of the Mercantile Center office tower will give the firm the chance to expand to up to 40 employees, according to a Feb. 2 press release announcing the move.The move sees TEC occupy a 9,368-square-foot office space at Mercantile Center, according to a leasing brochure from Worcester-based Kelleher & Sadowsky Associates, which handles leases for the site. This compares to TEC’s prior space of 1,950 square feet, according to real estate data firm CoStar.Rick Friberg, president and CEO of TEC, Inc. PHOTO COURTESY OF TEC, INC.“Our Worcester presence continues to grow, and this new office gives us the space and amenities to support our team and the important work we do for our clients,” Rick Friberg, TEC’s president & CEO, said in the press release. “We’re excited to be in the heart of the city, with easy access to transit, restaurants, and key downtown destinations.”Friberg took over the role of president in January 2025 from Mitch Keamy, who had led TEC for 24 years, according to a press release at the time. TEC’s first official day in the new office was Feb 1. The company’s Worcester office will continue to be led by Jard Duval, who took on the role of Worcester regional director in June 2023 after about three years serving as the Town of Oxford’s director of public works, according to his LinkedIn page. In addition to its Lawrence headquarters and Worcester office, TEC has offices in Hampton, New Hampshire and Portland, Maine. The company is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and has 85 employees, according to a December press release.Other tenants in the Mercantile Center include the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Venture X Worcester co-working space, Worcester Regional Research Bureau, and Worcester-based law firms Mirick and Fletcher Tilton, according to CoStar. Reliant Medical Group is the building’s largest tenant, taking up three floors. Mercantile Center is under the management of Wakefield-based Eastport Real Estate Services. Eastport took over after Chip Norton, the head of Franklin Realty Advisors, filed for personal Chapter 7 bankruptcy in June.
