Is Worcester the place of instant baseball magic?
In 2005, the Worcester Tornadoes made their debut in the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball — and won the league championship.
In 2014, the Worcester Bravehearts made their debut in the Collegiate Futures Baseball League (FCBL) — and they, too, won the league championship.
Last year, when owner John W.S. Creedon Jr. announced Worcester’s entry into the FCBL, it was greeted with a huge dollop of civic pride for a city that had hosted a professional baseball franchise for eight years, but lost it when the Tornadoes ran into financial problems at the end of the 2012 season.
To reach the pinnacle of the league in the franchise’s inaugural year is worth a shout-out, and it removes a little bit of the sting from the disastrous season that big league team east of here is having.
