CVS Caremark Corp. said same-store sales for the four weeks ended May 26 in its CVS Pharmacy division increased by 6.2 percent over the same period the previous year.

The company said pharmacy same store sales increased 6 percent, “and were negatively impacted by approximately 590 basis points due to recent generic introductions.”

Front-end same store sales increased 6.6 percent, the company said.

During the same period, the company opened 15 new stores, closed five stores, and relocated five others. The company operates 6,168 stores in 40 states.

The company, which is based in Woonsocket, R.I., said it did not include drug stores acquired in June 2006 in the same-store results.
