Protonex Technology Corp., a Southborough-based developer and manufacturer of fuel cell technologies, has received $1.2 million from Cummins Power Generation, a business group of Indiana-based Cummins Inc., to supply solid oxide fuel cell power systems for a demonstration system Cummins is developing for on-highway truck auxiliary power.
The contract is part of a larger deal awarded to Cummins, a main developer of diesel technology for industrial and commercial uses, by the U.S. Department of Energy to develop a diesel fueled solid oxide fuel cell.
The fuel cell designed by Protonex will be part of a system that will reduce truck idling and emissions. The fuel cell will provide power for the truck’s air conditioning, lighting and heating loads, the company said.
