CPI up 0.3 percent in Sept.

Driven by the cost of food, transportation and energy, American consumers paid 0.3 percent more for goods and services in September, according to the U.S. Department of Labor‘s Consumer Price Index.

Consumer prices fell by 0.1 percent in August.

The September level of 208.4 was 2.8 percent higher than in September 2006, the department said.
