CPI Nudges Up Slightly

The national index measuring the price of goods and services increased 0.1 percent last month, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The food and gas indexes both went up, with the food index rising 0.3 percent, the largest monthly increase in two years. All items except for food and energy remained flat in September. The all items except food and gas index has only risen 0.8 percent during the last year, the smallest annual increase since the 1960s.

The CPI’s 0.1 overall increase follows two months of 0.3 percent increases, which were preceded by three months of declines between April and June.
