Consumers least confident in two years

The consumer confidence index kept by the Conference Board has fallen in September to its lowest point since November 2005.

The board said the index for September stands at 99.8, down from 105.6 in August. Consumers also expressed falling confidence in the country’s present economic situation and the board’s expectations index also took a hit.

The board measures consumer confidence with a survey of 5,000 U.S. households.
