Household hazardous waste facilities in Paxton and Devens are two of a dozen Central Massachusetts projects and municipalities that have been awarded a share of more than $490,000 from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
Paxton will receive $25,000 in 2008 and another $25,000 in 2009, to assist in the development of a household hazardous waste facility that will also serve Boylston, West Boylston, Holden, Princeton, Rutland and Sterling, according to the DEP. Devens will receive $17,100 in 2008 to construct a similar facility that will serve ten surrounding communities.
In all, 12 Central Massachusetts communities were awarded either funds or a set amount of technical assistance from a DEP regional municipal assistance coordinator. They are: Athol, Ayer, Devens, Grafton, Hubbardston, Natick, Northbridge, Paxton, Princeton, Templeton, Uxbridge and West Boylston.
