After opening its first BJ’s Market store in Warwick, Rhode Island, Marlborough-based BJ’s Wholesale Club is expanding its smaller-format store concept with a second location in Florida.
Occupying about 55,000 square feet, the new BJ’s Market in Delray Beach, Florida is about half the size of a typical BJ’s club. The aim is to provide essential food and seasonal products for members at prices typically found in the chain’s larger clubs, according to a press release issued Tuesday.
“BJ’s Market offers unbeatable value on groceries combined with a smaller footprint that makes for a quick shopping experience,” Bill Werner, executive vice president, strategy and development at BJ’s, said in the press release. “BJ’s Market is perfect for families making a weeknight grocery run or a fast weekend trip between games and activities.”
Club membership will still be required to shop at BJ’s Market, with items on sale including individual salad kits, sliced-to-order deli products and half gallons of milk.
The Florida location will open its doors on Friday, joining the Rhode Island location, which first opened in 2022.
As of November, BJ’s had 261 clubs and 198 gas stations across 21 states. The company opened its first new Massachusetts clubs in 13 years in December.
