Through its BJ’s Charitable Foundation, Marlborough-based retailer BJ’s Wholesale Club has donated $500,000 to support the renovation of UMass Memorial Medical Center – Marlborough Campus’ emergency department, the largest gift in the hospital’s history.
UMass Memorial will name the family waiting area in honor of BJ’s, the hospital announced Wednesday.
The renovation and expansion of the emergency department will grow the number of patient rooms from 13 to 23, including new patient treatment rooms, two new trauma rooms, rooms designed for larger patients, and a specialty care center.
“We are grateful to BJ’s for this transformative and visionary gift, which will help address growing demand for urgent and emergency care in the region,” Dr. Eric Dickson, president and CEO of parent organization UMass Memorial Health, said in the announcement.
Work on the renovation began in October and is expected to be complete later this year, with the specialty care center opening in 2027.
