Baker announces $5M for workforce training

In an investment aimed to address chronic unemployment, Gov. Charlie Baker announced Monday that $5 million would be used to build a Massachusetts-based public workforce system that will enhance the existing federally-funded system for workforce development.

The funding is part of the governor’s 2017 budget proposal. The state funds will provide grants to community-based organizations and others that partner with businesses to develop job training and employment opportunities for populations that face higher unemployment rates, according to a release from the governor’s office.
