Aspen Opens Massive E. Providence Mfg. Facility

Northborough-based Aspen Aerogels tripled its production capacity in one fell swoop with the opening of a new, $30 million, 150,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in East Providence, R.I.

The company said it needed the facility, which is already planned to undergo two further expansions, to meet growing demand for its aerogel blanket insulation. The company estimates that after the two further expansions, the facility will be capable of bringing in revenue in excess of $200 million per year.

The company said “dozens” would be employed at the East Providence facility. The company’s corporate offices, research and development facilities and original manufacturing facility are in Northborough. Aspen makes lightweight, flexible aerogel insulation for a variety of industries from outdoor apparel to military and aerospace and oil and gas production.
