Accolades & Honors: April 29

Worcester Polytechnic Institute maintained its business accreditation by AACSB International: The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AACSB accreditation has been earned by fewer than 5 percent of the world’s business programs. Business programs must satisfy standards such as interactions of faculty and students and achievement of learning goals in degree programs.

Tighe & Bond, with offices in Worcester, received a Gold Award from the American Council of Engineering Cos. of Massachusetts. The award recognizes upgrades the firm made to Sturbridge’s wastewater treatment facility, the first full-scale combined BioMag/CoMag wastewater system in the country. BioMag uses magnetite, an iron ore, to improve processing and double the pace and capacity of wastewater treatment, resulting in cost savings and lower environmental impact.

U.S. Rep. James McGovern, Eric H. Schultz and Timothy West were selected for awards by the Boy Scouts of America’s Mohegan Council. McGovern will receive the Civic Leadership Award; Schultz, president and CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, the Distinguished Service Award; and West, a volunteer in Worcester, the new The Francis J. “Frank” Shea Community Activist Award. They’re scheduled to receive the awards this week at a ceremony.
