Title: Owner
Company: Beaton Construction
Company location: Shrewsbury
Residence: Shrewsbury
College: Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Boston University
Career highlights: Since I was a young boy, I have had a passion for the outdoors, the preservation of our natural environment and the satisfaction of building. The genesis of my company was based on the fusion of these passions: building efficient, quality structures while considering the bottom line, minimizing the impact on our shared environment, and improving occupant health.
Community involvement: I have been a Worcester County Big Brother for 13 years and now employ my little brother. Our company visits local schools to teach children about environmental and green construction issues. I have worked with a number of charitable organizations over the years including: Habitat for Humanity, Why Me and Outdoor Explorations. I am also a town meeting member in Shrewsbury, a member of my parish council and have been recently appointed to the Shrewsbury Development Corp.
Biggest professional success: I am the first contractor in the state with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) Green Certified Professional certifications. These are representative of our passion for green building and will differentiate us from future profiteers jumping on the green bandwagon without full understanding of the science behind green technology.
Dream job: Starting a nonprofit to restore and construct energy efficient houses for underprivileged residents in our region.
Businessperson he admires most and why: Gene DeFeudis’s accomplishments are an example of how hard work and integrity can yield success in the business world. He has given back to his community in ways that have impacted the lives of countless people. His commitment to charitable organizations throughout Worcester County is the true measure of a successful businessperson.
If you weren’t doing the job you’re doing now, what would you do? I would be teaching science to high school students.Â
