National Grid is working hard to help foster a smarter, stronger, and cleaner energy future for all. To support this mission, National Grid has launched several new programs focused on electric vehicles. These programs were created with the intention of helping National Grid achieve a net zero emission goal by 2050 and accelerate transportation electrification throughout Massachusetts.
As businesses continue to transition their fleets and more individuals personally invest in EVs, the demand for charging stations will only continue to rise. This means the need for charging stations at multi-unit dwellings will only become more and more important. Although National Grid has many different programs, there is one specifically designed to benefit multi-unit property owners. The goal of this program is to help make charging electric vehicles more accessible for those who don’t live in single-family homes.
Owners of electric vehicles who live in apartment buildings, complexes, and residential developments often don’t have designated parking spots or garages. Without designated spots, EV owners can’t install a charging station of their own. Beginning in 2035, Massachusetts will no longer allow the sales of new gas-powered cars, making EVs and their charging stations even more vital. When multi-unit owners install charging stations, they will benefit their current residents, attract new ones, and prepare for the future shift to EVs.
When you join National Grid’s Multi-Unit Dwelling Electric Vehicle Charging Program, National Grid’s EV Charging Program will fund up to 100% of the electric infrastructure costs and provide additional rebates for charging stations. In addition, National Grid will reduce your organization’s time investment by providing a streamlined, step-by-step experience installing your EV charging stations.
National Grid’s Multi-Unit Dwelling EV Ready-Site Plans support owners of multi-unit dwellings with 20 or more residential units in developing an EV-Ready Site Plan for the infrastructure, EV charging station equipment, and management practices required to provide EV charging to residents. Take advantage of useful resources that include proposed project sizing, cost estimates, evaluations of existing electrical infrastructure, operational and financial impacts of the installation, and discussion of EV Load Management Systems. These plans work to simplify and streamline the EV charging station process.
The growing adoption of electric vehicles is an exciting step towards a greener future. When multi-unit dwelling owners join in this forward momentum, they not only help make a smarter, stronger, and cleaner future but also give their property an advantage. This includes differentiating their property in an increasingly competitive housing market, providing greater value to help retain and attract residents, and improving property value. Making your property eco-friendly by providing electric charging stations is possible when you have National Grid by your side.
