Kenmore Diner owner to open rock-themed bar in former Blackstone Tap spot
Jefferson Mararian bought the Blackstone Tap in 2018 and turned it into the Rock Bar.
The owner of the Kenmore Diner is planning a rock ‘n’ roll-themed restaurant and bar at the former location of the Blackstone Tap.
Owner George Yantsides got Worcester License Commission approval for liquor and entertainment licenses Thursday and plans to open Rock Bar in February.
He’s currently renovating the space, which was home to the Blackstone Tap before it closed last year when owner Kevin Perry and wife Stacey Gala were charged with laundering the proceeds of illicit drug sales through that restaurant and the Chameleon, a restaurant they owned on Shrewsbury Street.
According to Yantsides, he and his wife have wanted to open the concept for about 20 years.
In addition to “kick-ass rock ‘n’ roll” from the 1960s to the 1990s, Yantsides said the restaurant will have a menu with bar food like sliders.
The space is being rented to Yantsides from property owner Jefferson Mararian, who purchased the building a second time in September through a court-sanctioned process.
"While I renovate I am also open to other ideas for the space that could fit nicely into the neighborhood," Mararian said in September. "Besides that I look forward to being back on Water Street and part of all the great things going on in the Canal District and the city of Worcester."
