In addition to Union Station, the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission is considering several downtown locations for its Worcester-based headquarters.
According to the state Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance, the state’s marijuana business regulating body is eyeing 10 possible sites in Worcester.
They include Union Station, the Guaranty Building at 370 Main St., the Commerce Building at 340 Main St., 13 Sudbury St. in a building occupied by the state Department of Transitional Assistance and Department of Children and Families, 10 Chestnut St. in a building occupied by Fallon Health, two locations on New Bond St. in buildings housing other state agencies, and locations at 144 Commercial St. and 324 Clark St.
Worcester officials have been making a push to court the CCC to Union Station. City spokesman Mike Vigneux told WBJ last month the CCC had requested a meeting with city officials to review the proposal to move to the transportation hub.
In August, the city’s Chief Development Officer Michael Traynor said the agency had already done a walkthrough of the available space in the station.
The city in April sent a response to the cannabis regulatory authority's request for proposals for at least 13,000 square feet of office space in Worcester. There is at least 15,000 square feet of space in the public transportation terminal for the agency.
The CCC is seeking a 10-year lease for office space for about 50 employees. A decision is expected this fall.
The agency is seeking a satellite office in the Boston area, including four in Boston, three in Quincy and three in Malden.
