Massachusetts added 10,000 jobs in June as the statewide unemployment rate ticked slightly upward to 4.3 percent from 4.2 percent in May.
Since January, Massachusetts has experienced the largest labor force increase on record. The commonwealth’s 66.7-percent labor force participation rate now exceeds the national rate by 3.9 points.
Massachusetts has added about 65,900 jobs since June of 2016, according to estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The national unemployment rate is 4.4 percent.
The biggest gains were seen in the education and health services sector, which added 6,700 jobs in June, followed by trade, transportation, and utilities (3,600 jobs), and leisure and hospitality (2,100 jobs). The only industry that lost jobs was construction (2,800 jobs).
