In 1924, Harold Fielding opened his insurance agency in Worcester, taking his daughter Lois up and down Water Street to sell new clients. After 35 years, Fielding hired son-in-law Sumner Herman and through acquisition and expanded geographic focus, the Harold Fielding Agency became Insurance Marketing Agencies. In 1985, Sumner's daughter Laura Herman-Strohecker joined the firm, followed by brother Peter seven years later, and the duo turned IMA into one of the largest independently owned insurance brokers in Massachusetts. In the last year, IMA has purchased a specialty insurance agency to broaden its brand awareness and then rebranded the company with a new puzzle-piece logo that symbolizes its “coverage that fits” tagline.
IMA supports several Worcester community-based outreach programs, such as Straight Ahead Ministries, the Worcester JCC, the Jewish Federation of Central Massachusetts, the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts and Jeff’s Place.
