Bowditch & Dewey sell offices for $2.8M to hockey developer

In a continued land-grab by Worcester Railers Hockey Club owner Cliff Rucker, the Worcester office building of law firm Bowditch & Dewey sold Wednesday for $2.8 million.

The purchase, announced by the law firm and confirmed with financial figures through Massachusetts Land Records, includes an eight-year lease by the law firm with stipulations for extensions. Also included in the deal are a substantial renovation and modernization of its offices, according to Bowditch & Dewey.

Bowditch & Dewey Chairman Michael Angelini said with a resurging market, now was the right time to sell the building.

“We are strong believers in Worcester’s future and have concluded that the sale of our property will better allow us to participate in that future by focusing on what we do best – delivering the highest quality of legal services,” he said in a statement.

The purchase marks a continued move by Rucker to entrench himself in downtown Worcester. In 2015, the Beverly businessman announced his intentions to bring a hockey team to the DCU Center. The team will begin it’s inaugural season next year. Rucker has also been in the process of rehabilitating a property near the DCU Center that formerly served as a bar as well as working on a new 100,000-square-foot skating rink in the Canal District.
