UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Medical Center surpassed $1 million in funds raised at their annual Winter Ball black tie gala.

The funds raised at the eighth annual iteration of the event pushed overall funds raised by the gala to over $6 million, according to a release from the organizations. The funds were raised through corporate sponsorships—which hit a record high, totaling more than $437,000—silent and live auctions, a fund-a-need auction segment and individual ticket sales.

Governor Charlie Baker, Lt. Governor Karyn Polito and Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty, along with 400 community members, were on hand at historic Mechanics Hall for the celebration.

Each year, a program, center or other important initiative at UMass Medical School and/or UMass Memorial is selected as a Fund-a-Need beneficiary. The Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders (CANDO) Clinic was the beneficiary this year, garnering more than $250,000 in gifts and pledges.
