Worcester schools make U.S. News & World Report list

WPI made the list in a number of categories from the latest college ranking from U.S. News and World Report.

The latest U.S. News and World Report college ranking is out, with Worcester’s schools having a strong showing overall and climbing in key rankings of more than 1,800 schools throughout the nation.

The city’s schools were ranked highly on the various lists released by the publication and are based on several key measures: peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute was ranked 60th, dropping down slightly from its ranking of 57th last year. However, WPI was also ranked 42nd on the publication’s list of best value schools. The college was also ranked 150th -- tying Clark University -- for the best undergraduate business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business based on surveys of business school deans and senior faculty.

The College of the Holy Cross was named 32nd out of 232 of the nation’s liberal arts colleges, maintaining its ranking from last year.

Assumption College was ranked 23rd out of nearly 200 regional universities in the north that offer bachelor's and master’s degrees, advancing nine spots from its rank last year. The school also made the list of “A+ Schools for B Students” along with Clark University.

Clark was ranked 74th on the publication’s list of national universities, up from 75th last year.

Worcester State University was ranked 113th on the list of best regional universities. Fitchburg and Framingham state universities made that list in the second tier school ranking.
