Clark-Cutler-McDermott was founded in 1911 in Franklin, originally conceived to make horse blankets. As times have changed, so has the company, evolving to focus on other products like inexpensive rugs and matting for miniature golf courses. Today, the bulk of its business is sound-and-vibration deadening panels for automobiles. Clark-Cutler-McDermott still calls Franklin home, but it has three manufacturing facilities on its single 250,000-square-foot campus in Franklin plus locations in North Carolina and Michigan.
Now in its fourth generation as a family business, Clark-Cutler-McDermott is run by the father-and-son team of Thomas and James McDermott. The company won the General Motors Supplier of the Year award two years in a row, out of more than 20,000 GM auto suppliers worldwide. The award honors firms that have high marks in innovation, quality, customer support and competitive costs.
