Habitat for Humanity receives space at Mercantile Center

Courtesy Habitat for Humanity moves into 20,000 square feet of storage at Mercantile Center in Worcester.

Habitat for Humanity of MetroWest and Greater Worcester has received 20,000 square feet of donated storage space at Mercantile Center in downtown Worcester.

The space at the recently renamed mixed-use property will be used by Habitat’s ReStore and Project Playhouse programs. The storage space on the first floor of 100 Front St. comes as both Habitat programs expand -- the organization is planning to open a second ReStore in the MetroWest area.

ReStore is a retail outlet open to the public that sells quality, gently-used and surplus construction and home improvement materials as well as home furnishings. Proceeds from the store benefit Habitat and last year, ReStore brought in enough revenue to build one home for a low-income family. Project Playhouse is a volunteer event that gathers people together to build a playhouse for a child from a local military or veteran family.

The storage space is located in the 640,000 square foot Mercantile Center recently purchased by Franklin Realty Advisors and Great Point Investors LLC. It is currently undergoing renovations.
