Benefits of ReWalk exoskeleton demonstrated in new study

A study on the benefits of the ReWalk Robotics exoskeleton found significant improvements in the quality of life for an individual with spinal cord injury using the system.
This is the first case study to analyze the benefit of the ReWalk exoskeleton, a device that allows those with certain spinal injuries to walk upright rather than sit in a wheel chair. The case study, co-authored by Dr. Karsten Krakow, was published in the journal Spinal Cord Series and Cases published by the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCOS). It studied the impact on ambulation ability as well as several other quality of life measures as part of a patient-reported survey.
After six months in the rehabilitation setting, ReWalk's system was found to improve both mobility and other quality of life measures including risk of falling, motor skills and control of bladder and bowel functions, according to a release from ReWalk.
"This case study offers critical analysis on the impact of exoskeleton use on the health and well-being of those with spinal cord injury," said ReWalk CEO Larry Jasinski. "We are pleased with the findings of the report, and readily support the report's recommendation for further studies with a greater number of participants.
ReWalk is the only exoskeleton system cleared by the FDA for personal use at home and in the community, as well as for the rehabilitation setting. It continues to receive additional authorizations from insurance companies for reimbursement.
