Westborough-based information technology firm eClinicalWorks will more than double the number of employees at its headquarters following the purchase of a 200,000-square-foot property from EMC Corp.
“We already have our headquarters here so we wanted a building that was close by and we wanted to make things as convenient for our employees as possible,” eClinicalWorks Spokesperson Heather Caouette said of the site that is a five-minute drive from the company’s current headquarters.
The company purchased the property at 900 West Park Drive for $21.2 million, according to the Worcester County Registry of Deeds, with the transaction completed on Sept. 25.
The company, which currently has 900 employees at its MetroWest headquarters, will be adding 1,000 employees to its Massachusetts workforce. The current location, at 2 Technology Drive, will remain in operation but is fully built out and prompted eClinicalWorks to look elsewhere, Caouette said. The headquarters will be split between the two buildings although the functions at each site have not yet been confirmed, she said.
“eClinicalWorks has experienced exponential growth, with 2015 on track to be one of the company’s best years,” Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks, said. “As we expand, we require more space to continuously develop innovative technology and support our clients. The addition of this building will allow us to double our footprint in Westborough to better serve our employees and customers.”
The vacant property bought by eClinicalWorks was owned by digital storage firm EMC and was built 14 years ago but had never had a tenant, according to Caouette. The $30 million buildout of the property is expected to be completed in a year. The deal was funded with existing capital, Caouette said.
The company has 4,300 employees around the world with offices in California, New York, Illinois and Georgia.
