Urban Kitchen ends 7-month stint on Shrewsbury Street
Urban Kitchen and Bar on Worcester’s Shrewsbury Street will close Friday, and the location will be leased to British Beer Co., a Massachusetts-based pub chain.
Urban Kitchen owner George Voyiatzis told the Telegram & Gazette for a story Tuesday that “the opportunity presented itself,” and “it made quite a bit of financial sense.” He said the deal “happened very quickly.”
Urban Kitchen and Bar opened last winter at the site of Coral Seafood, 225 Shrewsbury St., after Voyiatzis’ parents and brother retired from that business. Coral Seafood had been at the location for close to a decade, moving there after about 20 years on Green Street in Worcester.
The Telegram reported that Voyiatzis will hold a farewell party, open to the public, at 5:30 p.m. Friday to show his family's appreciation to employees and patrons. Voyiatzis said letting go of Urban Kitchen and Bar will allow him to spend more time with his family and to concentrate on his other restaurant, Fish, in Marlborough.
British Beer Co., based in Plymouth, is modeled on traditional English pubs. The company already has 11 locations in Massachusetts, including Framingham, Franklin and Westford; as well as two pubs in New Hampshire.
