SimpliVity has raised $175 million in Series D funding, the Westborough-based technology company said Tuesday.
The accomplishment comes less than two years after release of its flagship product, the OmniCube, and brings the company's value to $1 billion, SimpliVity said.
Waypoint Capital led the round. Prior investors Accel Partners, Charles River Ventures, DFJ Growth, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Meritech Capital Partners also contributed. SimpliVity’s total venture funding is now $276 million.
“We are honored to have Waypoint join our extremely supportive group of investors. It is a unique and valuable opportunity to have an investor who is truly a customer first – with hands-on SimpliVity product experience,” SimpliVity CEO Doron Kempel said in a statement.
Kempel was recently honored as Worcester Business Journal’s 2015 Business Leader of the Year in the large business category.
SimpliVity's niche, exemplified by the OmniCube, is what is called converged infrastructure. This technology combines different information technology components — such as data servers, software and networking equipment — into one optimized package.
The Worcester County Sheriff's Office has been running its systems on three OmniCubes since 2013. This has simplified operations — down from 12 servers — and cut costs while making everything easier to manage, Maurice Myrie, IT director at the sheriff's office, told the WBJ last month for a story about Kempel.
