Grafton will be home to Central Massachusetts’s largest residential solar electric system, thanks to a project completed Monday, according to the company that designed and installed it.
The 45,900-watt, ground-mounted solar electric system includes includes 180 solar panels mounted on 12 poles, according to Hudson-based New England Clean Energy.
The system will cover the electrical needs for several properties, according to the customer, who prefers to remain anonymous. It will be turned on roughly four weeks after the system’s connection to the utility grid is approved.
Construction and installation of the Grafton system lasted from late August to early October, with the final electrical work done Monday, the company said.
The Grafton installation is nearly six times larger than the average system installed by New England Clean Energy in 2013. A 30 percent federal tax credit and income from selling solar renewable energy certificates has prompted homeowners to install larger systems, New England Clean Energy said.
