Title:Partner, Fletcher Tilton PC
Company location: Worcester
Residence: Shrewsbury
Favorite movie: "Shawshank Redemption"
Career highlights: In 2009, at the age of 31, I was made a partner at one of the region’s premier law firms, Fletcher Tilton PC, six short years after I graduated from Suffolk University Law School. I attribute this accomplishment, in part, to my ability to learn quickly and gain the respect and trust of my clients.
Community involvement: For over six years I have served on the Board of Trustees at the Ecotarium in Worcester, including the last two as chairman of the board. This experience has proven to be an extremely rewarding one for me, especially since they have had a leadership change at the executive director position, which came at a very important time in the growth and revitalization of the organization. I am proud of my service there and I am very pleased with the direction the Ecotarium is headed.
I am also a member of the Board of Assessor’s in the town of Shrewsbury, as well as a coach for the town’s soccer and baseball youth programs.
Biggest success: My biggest successes, in the practice of law, have been the ones I have achieved for my clients. One recent example was the successful permitting and acquisition of an office building which will be demolished and rebuilt as high end medical/dental space. One of the biggest challenges was convincing the Historical Commission to allow demolition of the building within a protective period. I was informed that I was the only attorney who had ever been successful in convincing the Commission to shorten the protective period. For my efforts, I was named a “Rising Star” in Boston Magazine’s Top Massachusetts Lawyers in 2007, 2008 & 2009. This recognition is gained, in part, by the recommendations of attorneys outside of your own firm. I was also named “Real Estate Rising Star” in Law & Politics Magazine in 2007, 2008 & 2009.
In my personal life, my biggest success is my family. My wife, Jo-Ellen, and our three wonderful kids, Jacob, Nathan and Tess.
Biggest challenge: The biggest challenge I face is balancing my young, active family with the desire to create an ever-growing practice. I have three young children, ages 6, 4 and 1, whom I enjoy being with tremendously. However, much of the development work that I am involved in requires attendance at night hearings, in front of various town and municipal boards and committees. This is tough on my wife and my children so there is a delicate balance that needs to be struck between work and home. This has proven to be my biggest struggle.
Mentors: The attorneys at Fletcher Tilton have been extremely helpful in mentoring and guiding me. The atmosphere at our firm is a friendly, team-driven one. But, my biggest mentor has to be my father, Larry. My dad, also an attorney, has recently become of counselat Fletcher Tilton. We have spent much time talking about developing client relationships, dealing with other attorneys and how to grow as a person all the while. I’m not sure he knows this, but my dad has been one of the biggest influences in my practice of law. (Thanks, Dad!)
Hidden talents: I can hit the golf ball 300 yards!
