Career highlights:I have been very proud during my tenure at Residence Inn to watch five of my employees further their careers by being promoted to new positions within the hotel and our company. To have assisted them, mentored them and watched them grow is a personal success I will always cherish. A second highlight would be successfully transitioning from sales to operations.
Community involvement: True North Hotel Group and our hotel brand, Residence Inn by Marriott, are passionate about helping in their communities. My team and I have worked closely with the local senior center in Westford throughout 2012 and 2013. We held a food drive at the hotel for most of 2012 and donated a considerable amount of non-perishable items to the center’s food pantry. We also hosted a Senior Lunch Luau for the seniors of Westford and provided them a fresh, home-cooked meal.
Biggest success: My biggest success is, of course, my three beautiful daughters: Meghan, Emma and Kiley. I strive to be the best role model I can be for them and want them to see that hard work, dedication and giving back to your community is the key to their future success. Professionally, I’m proud of leading my hotel to year-over-year growth since 2010. We have seen positive gain in our year-end revenue and profit results.
Biggest challenge: Finding the balance of time between my career and my family. My role as a GM requires me to be available 24/7 to my team and guests. This occasionally impacts time spent with my family, so having their support and understanding of the commitment needed in this industry is key to being successful. However, having the right team in place at the hotel allows me to be the best mom and GM that I can possibly be without sacrificing the needs of both.
Mentors: I have had various mentors throughout my years in hospitality. Many did not know I was watching so intently or listening so closely. Some were supervisors, co-workers and hourly associates, yet all have shaped me into how I lead and manage. Thank you Maura Peeler, Steven Brooks, Daniel Pereira, Christine Dehney, Karen Corcoran, Nicole Pro, Maria Silva and Nancy Esposito.
Hidden talents: I coached varsity field hockey for several years after college at a local high school. This is where I recognized my passion for motivating and teaching others to strive to be the best they possibly can by working hard for the better of themselves and their team!
